Air Force Airman David P. Nance graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The eight-week program included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Ron and Shannon Nance of Gainesville and is a 2006 graduate of North Forsyth High School in Cumming. - photo by For The Times

Navy Seaman Recruit Jay T. Hallum, a 2005 graduate of Stephens County High School in Toccoa, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Hallum completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations,” an exercise designed to galvanize the sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through basic Navy skills and core values.
