Gainesville State College's Politically Incorrect Club on April 18 toured the historic Gen. James Longstreet Piedmont Hotel Museum in Gainesville. Longstreet Society President Richard Pilcher spoke about Gen. Longstreet, a Confederate general in the Civil War, before students explored the restored historic site. Douglas Young is the adviser for the club. 

Students named as dean's scholars for the spring semester at Piedmont College in Demorest include Stephanie M. Smith of Clermont; Shirley Adcock and Patience Burgamy, both of Flowery Branch; Seth Daigle, Cally Dunnett, Gregory Janney, Amanda Porter and Laura Simmons, all of Gainesville; and Megan Thompson of Lula. To be named a dean's scholar, students must earn a 4.0 grade-point average.

Students named to the dean's list include John Peck and Staci Smith, both of Clermont; Phillip Albertson, Justin Doro, Britt Hensley, Emily Little, Brandon Mahaffey and Spencer Ventrice, all of Flowery Branch; Jennifer Fuller, Joshua Haymore, Michael A. Rubio and Brandi Syfan, all of Gainesville; Amanda Hulsey and Christy Nelper, both of Lula; James McGuigan of Murrayville; and Lauren Lovelady of Oakwood. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average.

Patricia Thibodeau of Clermont and Christopher DeWitt of Gainesville graduated in May from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Thibodeau also was named to the dean's list. To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a 3.2 grade-point average in 12 hours of courses. She also earned a Gold Star for earning at least a 3.7 grade-point average. She is the daughter of Richard Thibodeau. DeWitt is the son of Douglas DeWitt.
