In December, fifth-graders at McEver Elementary School had an electrifying experience. Ed Gillot, electrical engineer from Baldor Reliance Electric, showed students the fundamentals of a simple motor using wire and a magnet. He also showed them a cut away of an operating motor that is similar to the ones designed and manufactured at his plant in Flowery Branch. When he was done with his presentation, the students participated in a hands-on project about the role that magnets play in producing electricity. Gillot is the husband of fifth-grade teacher Linda Gillot.

Natalie Escobar of West Hall High School was awarded the $3,000 Silver Award in the Georgia High School Drawing Competition for her artwork, "Pippi in Wonderland."
