The Lakeview Academy Girl Scout Daisies of Troop 10849 and Brownies of Troop 10820 recently sent 200 boxes of cookies to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. A recent food drive co-sponsored by First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville and ProMusica collected 1,200 pounds of food and $500 in financial contributions for the Georgia Mountain Food Bank.

The food drive was associated with the Spivey Hall Children’s Tour Choir concert presented by ProMusica. The food drive took place March 6 at the church with the concert on March 7. The 1,200 pounds of food equates to nearly 950 meals.

The food bank, which serves Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Lumpkin and Union counties, has distributed more than 200,000 pounds of food from the community so far this year.

The Georgia Mountain Food Bank, an affiliate of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, collects surplus food for distribution to nonprofit partner agencies.
