The Georgia Mountains YMCA wants to inspire more children to keep their minds and bodies moving and grooving this summer.

To that end, the organization is hosting the 25th annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 30, at Laurel Park, 3100 Old Cleveland Highway, in Gainesville.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features free fun, active play and educational activities..

Part of the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families, the event features activities such as a new partnership with the Hall County Schools to present the Fit Families 5K. The race will begin at 9 a.m. with the course running along the shores of Lake Lanier. Registration is at www.GAMountains
YMCA.org/HealthyKidsDay
.

Other activities include Lowe’s planting projects, Abrakadoodle and Macaroni Kid art projects, Zumba for Kids, rock climbing wall, obstacle courses, bounce houses, giveaways, competitions, fresh sandwiches from Subway and icy treats from Kona Ice (for purchase) as well as health vendors.

All are designed to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home. Creating healthy habits during the summer is key since it is a critical time for kids’ health. When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential.
