Gospel and bluegrass music will be paired with fresh food for the “Maters & Music” event in Northeast Georgia this weekend.
The free will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Byron Herbert Reece Farm & Heritage Center pavilion. The Reece Farm & Heritage Center is at 8552 Gainesville Highway (U.S. 129), 9 miles south of Blairsville near Vogel State Park.
Admission is free to the program, but visitors who wish to tour the venue’s exhibits must pay $3.
The Bennie Shook Family and Shady Grove Bluegrass Band will entertained visitors with gospel and bluegrass music as they indulge in an authentically made tomato sandwich with compliments from the Reece Center. Writer Johnny Vardeman, author of “mater sammich” columns in The Times, will share his insights on the subject of tomatoes.
Fresh tomatoes will be for sale as well.
