As the fall temperatures inch toward Northeast Georgia, Helen Arts & Heritage will head indoors for the first class of the season in its new pottery studio.

Clay studio director, teacher and clay artist Hilton Hill will teach slab building as well as wheel-thrown techniques in the class. Hilton will provide information on the care and use of equipment along with materials and tools necessary in making decorative and functional pottery pieces.

Students will work at their own pace and discover new and creative designs in pottery making while developing their own personal style. They also will learn glazing techniques and receive basic information on the firing process involved in the final stages of completion.

The course will involve six, three-hour sessions from 1-4 p.m. Thursdays Sept. 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 18 and 15 at 25 Chattahoochee Strasse in downtown Helen. Cost is $150 plus a supply fee of $25, which covers the raw clay used in the class.

Register at helenarts.org or call Hilton Hill at 706-969-1177.
