Two Hall County children — Eli Ligon and Brecklynn Allgood — are battling cancer.

No one would deny both have run a tough race against time and the rare forms of cancer. And now the Hall County community plans to honor them with a race of its own.

The second annual Outrun Cancer 5-kilometer and 1-mile fun run will be Sunday, April 17, at Martha Hope Cabin at 528 Prior St. in downtown Gainesville. The fun run will begin at 3:45 p.m. with the 5K race starting at 4 p.m.

The flat race course will have runners start at Martha Hope Cabin and jog toward the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Runners will then complete a loop of the hospital and Brenau campus twice.

Preregistration costs $25 with a guaranteed event T-shirt by 3 p.m. April 16. To register the day of the race, the cost is $30. The fun run is $15.

Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female, top male and female Masters (40 and older), and top two male and female in eight separate age groups.

All runners will receive free shaved ice from Frozen Frenzee. “Heroes in Force” will attend with superheroes and princess appearances.

Bounce houses and slides will also be available at the family-friendly event.
