Classic sounds and jazzy turns will ring throughout Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville as the North Georgia Chamber Symphony Inc. kicks off the winter season with a concert.
The free concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at 1397 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.
The concert will begin with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s waltz from “Serenade for Strings.” Rick Harris of Dahlonega is a featured soloist on Vincent Persichetti’s “The Hollow Men” for trumpet and strings.
Harris also has arranged several jazz numbers, including “Let Yourself Go,” “Pick Yourself Up” and “Have Yourself a Merry.” He will join the symphony with trumpet and percussion.
Laurin Smith, Rebecca Gerstenlauer and Ismail Akbar (violins and cello) will be the soloists on Arcangelo Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.
Several other Christmas carols and pops numbers will be performed.
The symphony also will be joined by the Chattahoochee Elementary Champion Chorus for the annual sing along.
The concert will conclude with Le Roy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride.
