Literary characters and legendary authors will resume their earthly lives for one night at Abra Kadaver in Dahlonega.

Hosted by the Dahlonega Literary Festival, the costume fundraiser will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, in Dahlonega. Tickets are $35 and includes dinner, beverages and music.

Visitors to Abra Kadaver are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary character or author for a pre-Halloween evening of fun, literary trivia and costume contests. Last year, characters from the Harry Potter novels, a Mark Twain look-alike, ghosts, princesses and even a few goblins were on hand for the inaugural Abra Kadaver.

Even the food has a literary theme. The main dishes are “A Tale of Two Meats” by Charles Pickens and “Under the Dahlonega Sun” by Francis Hayes.

All proceeds from Abra Kadaver II will benefit the 2017 Dahlonega Literary Festival, set for March 25-26. Hundreds of book lovers and authors from throughout the Southeast are expected to attend.
