Leukemia Cup Regatta setting sail for a cure

Local sailors can compete for a worthy cause in the Leukemia Cup Regatta on March 11-13 at Lake Lanier Sailing Club in Flowery Branch.

The regatta includes a series of events that has sailors competing for prizes and a chance to race at the Fantasy Sail with world-renowned sailor and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson, national Regatta chairman. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each fleet.

The cost to register a boat in the race is $150, which includes dinner and party for the skipper. A $30 late fee is assessed after Feb. 21.

Tickets to watch the race cost $25 per person or $50 for a VIP ticket a spot on spectator boat.

Donations are encouraged. Skippers raising at least $500 will registration fee refunded. Awards will be given for top fundraisers.

Proceeds will raise money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers that affect more than 1 million people in North America.

“The Leukemia Cup Regatta is an important fundraising event that gives participants an opportunity to do something enjoyable while making a critical difference in the lives of patients and their families,” said Piper Medcalf, executive director of the LLS Georgia Chapter.
