Ever want to learn how to paint and then sit back to enjoy your favorite glass of wine? Helen Arts & Heritage Center has the answer for you.

Watercolor painting is a popular media among many because of its forgiving nature. The paints can be rewetted time and time again, making it possible to make vibrant strokes in detail and expression.

Starting Tuesday, March 1, the arts center will conduct the “Wine, Women & Watercolor — A Watercolor Painting Party” in the new studio at the arts center at 25 Chattahoochee Strasse in Helen. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Hiawassee watercolor artist Clair Joyce will teach the three-hour introduction to watercolor painting. The class is designed to be an afternoon of fun among women as they learn the basics of watercolors. No prior drawing or painting experience is required.

Participants will learn color mixing using four colors and the proper method of handling watercolor brushes and paint. Students will paint their own personal rendition of a subject given by the instructor. Each woman will complete her watercolor to take home for her own enjoyment.

The fee is $40 plus $10 for supplies. Online registration and payment options are available at helenarts.org. The registration deadline is Sunday, Feb. 28.
