The Steve Cunningham Trio will close out The Arts Council’s Evenings of Intimate Jazz series with a performance Friday.

The 8 p.m. concert will be held at the Smithgall Arts Center, 331 Spring St., Gainesville.

The group’s namesake began playing the guitar when he was 14 years old. Cunningham has released four solo albums, the latest of which was "Slide" in 2008. His talents are showcased in more than 200 performances each year. Cunningham incorporates a number of different styles, including jazz, country, pop, rock, R&B and gospel.

The other members of the trio are Mike Little on piano and vocals, and Yonrico Scott on drums.

Little has performed with artists like The Four Tops, Jamie Fox and Miles Jay. He’s also the musical director for Party Nation, a corporate band.

In addition to performing with people like Aretha Franklin and Gregg Allman, Scott has also toured Broadway with productions like "The Wiz" and "Dream Girls."

The trio’s performance will be the season closer for the series, which included six performances.

"It’s been a really good season. We had a big variety of performers and had a good turnout for each show," said Dwight Hutchins, art council assistant director.

"We’ve had a good mixture of instrumentalists and vocalists. At our last performance, we had people who drove in from New Orleans, Baton Rouge and parts of Texas.

"We were really pleased to see that."
