Fitness competitors from ages 11 and older can battle for bragging rights in the third annual Indoor Sprint Triathlon at the J.A. Walters YMCA in Gainesville.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2455 Howard Road and is available to YMCA members and nonmembers.

Sponsored by Beltman Relocation Group, the triathlon is designed for experienced athletes wanted to stay focused during the out-of-season months and newcomers to the sport who just want to see what it’s all about.

Participants will be divided into five-person groups and compete in heats. The heat will include swimming in the pool for 15 minutes, biking for 30 minutes and running for 15 minutes. Transitioning from the pool to the bike will be eight minutes and five minutes from bikes to treadmills. Top finishers in each age division will earn prizes.

Registration is $25 for YMCA members and $35 for nonmembers includes a triathlon T-shirt. Registration ends Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Volunteers, staff and family members may cheer on participants, creating a positive environment, said Angie Beccue, wellness director at the J.A. Walters Family YMCA.
