Runners and walkers who exercise with their pets will have the chance to show off their prowess Saturday during the Mutt Strut Fun Walk and 5K in Gainesville.

Organized by the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, the 25th annual event will be June 11 at Lakeview Academy, 796 Lakeview Drive, in Gainesville. Registration is at 7 a.m. The 5-kilometer run begins at 8:45 a.m. and 1-mile walk starts at 8 a.m.

Participants may bring their dogs to run or walk with them as long as their pets are vaccinated, leashed, non-aggressive and in good physical condition.

Registration costs $30 as an individual or $80 for a team of four. Participants can register at www.HSNEGA.org or www.Active.com.

The annual event is one of the most popular fundraising events for HSNEGA with all proceeds benefiting the organization’s rescue and adoption programs

“This year is our silver anniversary for Mutt Strut, which is telling of the popularity of the event in our community,” HSNEGA Executive Director Julie Edwards said. “HSNEGA is incredibly appreciative of the support for Mutt Strut, and we always look forward to seeing our friends — humane and canine — at the event.”

Awards will be given to the overall male/female and overall masters male/female. Age group awards will be given three deep in standard age groups from 10 and younger to 75 and older. Prizes will be given for the top canine finishers in the 5K and 1 mile.

The 5K is part of the Black Bag Race Series. Finish line and results will be provided by Classic Race Services.

Sponsored by Wash Yer Duds, this year’s Mutt Strut will have pet-themed vendors, a photo booth and a “Best Trick” contest for pups in attendance.
