A little beer, a little polka, a little oompah music ... what better way to welcome summer in Northeast Georgia?

The first of three Bavarian Fests is scheduled for 6 to 11:30 p.m. Sunday at the Helen Festhalle's outdoor beer garden.

The event will feature genuine Bavarian music by Dan Witucki's Trio and the Euro Dancers of Atlanta.

The Memorial Day celebration will honor all retired and active military personnel by offering free admission.

Admission for civilians is $5 adults, children ages 12 and under free.

Domestic and imported beer and wine, soft drinks, water and coffee are offered for purchase, along with German food: Wurst on a bun with sauerkraut, Bavarian pretzels, popcorn, hot dogs and desserts.

Future Bavarian Fests are scheduled for July 4, with music by the Loose Cannons, and Sept. 4 featuring the Atlanta Polka Band
