If you're finding it difficult to shake off the winter blahs, The Gourd Place in Sautee may have just the thing to help you usher in spring.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, owners Janice Lymburner and Priscilla Wilson will be hosts of a "Life is Gourd" celebration at their combination shop and museum at 2319 Duncan Bridge Road.
In addition to serving as a welcome wagon for spring, the celebration will also mark the shop's annual spring reopening.
"People are really in need of play and frivolity right about now," Lymburner said.
"Our celebration will give folks a chance to play games such as gourd bowling, pool, ‘gourdminton' and smash the (gourd) pinata."
The free event will also include a gourd-head race and "gourdiscus' throw. Everyone who wears bright, springlike colors and participates in the games can earn points toward a store discount.
"We want to give people an incentive to be playful," Lymburner said.
The shop specializes in handmade pottery and art that is created on site.
Oregon-based watercolorist Kathleen Kollock will also be on hand to showcase some of her latest works.
