For children of the 1980s, one classic film epitomized the battle between teenagers and their stringent parents. But in this fish-out-of-water story, one male teen spearheads the rebellion through dance.
Based on the 1984 film, “Footloose” was turned from silver screen gem to Broadway musical. And now it will appear on the Gainesville High School stage.
In the story, a young man named Ren McCormack moves from Chicago to a small town only to learn his passion for music and dance are not only discouraged but illegal. Now Ren faces many challenges, especially a battle with strong-willed preacher Shaw Moore. Adding to the tension is the love Ren develops for Moore’s spirited daughter, Ariel. The two teens then lead the town’s youth to a new dawn with a real dance.
