Artwork, leather and handcrafted gifts will fill the rooms for the holiday season at Bowen Center for the Arts in Dawsonville.

Kicking off the holiday activities is the Home for the Holidays Juried Art Show.

Running from Dec. 5-20, more than $700 in prizes will be awarded to some of the 30 artists displaying 70 pieces. The opening reception and awards ceremony will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.

Award-winning photographer and Gainesville resident Cynthia Todd will judge the entries.

Four days later, Bowen will host a two-day Black Eagle Leather Purse Workshop with Dahlonega artist Tom Slavicek. The class is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9-10.

Slavicek will help students construct two high-quality leather pouches of their own design. The course costs $110 and includes materials. Students will need to provide very sharp scissors.

Finally, the Jinglebell Junction Holiday Marketplace featuring handcrafted holiday gifts will run from now until Saturday, Dec. 13. Special sale days are from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Items include pottery, jewelry, body lotions, honey, kitchen gadgets, purses, holiday baskets, notecards, books and an assortment of art.
