Riding, wrestling and roping have one thing in common, and it’s called the rodeo.
The 26th annual Mountain Top Rodeo is slated for June 19 and 20 at the R-Ranch in the Mountains, eight miles north of Dahlonega.
Charlie Lowry from 4L and Diamond S Rodeo return with its main events, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, barrel racing, bull riding, ladies break-away roping and team roping.
Today’s professional rodeo holds a distinct position in the world of modern sports, stemming from a working lifestyle.
Early rodeo began as the everyday chores of working ranches on the great plains of the American West. These chores would eventually evolve into the unique rodeo events of today.
Tickets for a single day are $12 for adults and $6 for a child. Tickets for two days are $24 for adults and $12 for children.
Advance tickets may be purchased at the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Visitors Center or the R-Ranch office. Visitors may save a few bucks by purchasing tickets in advance.
The parking fee is $5.
To participate as a contestant in Mountain Top Rodeo, call 706-857-5149 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. June 16.
Upon arrival on R-Ranch, the contestant entry will be to the left side of the office.
