Mark your calendars and bring the family to spend a "Sunday in the Park."

Sunday will mark the 15th annual Friends of the Parks "Sunday in the Parks" butterfly release. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. at Wilshire Trails Park along Pearl Nix Parkway in Gainesville.

There is no admission charge and parking is available at Gainesville Middle School and Gainesville High School. Free shuttle service will run from the schools to Wilshire Trails Park.

Fun activities for children of all ages will include paper sailboat races and face painting. T-shirts, food and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Every child in attendance will be given an envelope containing a butterfly to release into the park at 3 p.m. The first 100 sponsorships will receive a butterfly wand or a transforming insect toy.

All proceeds will help underwrite the annual community event. In case of rain, the butterflies will be released under the pavilion. For more information, call 770-531-2680.
