Glow in the Dark 5K

When: 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19

Where: SAFFT, 430 Prior St., Gainesville

Cost: $30 adults, $15 children 10 and younger

Runners looking to get into the Christmas spirit by either donning elf costumes or brightening the night with lights can do so on Nov. 19.

Braselton and Gainesville will be the locations of two distinct 5-kilometer races with entertaining themes.

In Jackson County, the inaugural Racing Elves 5K and 1 Mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at 9924 Davis St. in Braselton. Runners are encouraged to wear their best elf attire as awards will be given out to the best male and female elf and the best family of elves.

Other honors will go to the overall top male and female runner and the top three finishers in several age categories.

Schools can also receive money for their participation in the race. First place received $750, second $500 and third $250.

The first 100 children to complete the race will also receive a special gift.

Cookies and hot cocoa will be provided at the finish line.

Registration costs $30. Proceeds from the race will benefit Jackson County Boys and Girls Club and Rotary Club of Braselton partner charities.

In Hall County, the Supporting Adoption & Foster Families Together Inc. is sponsoring its inaugural Glow Out the Dark 5K on the same day.

The event will begin at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at SAFFT on Prior Street. The course will continue to the Holiday Inn, go across the pedestrian bridge and finish at the Brenau University amphitheater. The event will be chip-timed to ensure accuracy.

Runners are encouraged to bring their glow sticks and bright T-shirts to light up the night.

Proceeds will benefit the SAFFT organization, which supports foster children, their families in crisis and the caregivers who help orphans every day.
