Armed with only his fiddle, the 2002 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Jamie Laval will play soaring melodies and toe-tapping rhythms to bring the atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands to Northeast Georgia.
Laval will also share some amusing stories during the concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at The Crimson Moon in downtown Dahlonega.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door and $9 students younger than 22.
A native of Seattle, Laval initially studied classical violin at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. He made a living as a professional symphony musician, recording studio artist, improvising violinist and contra dance fiddler. But his passion for the haunting sounds of rural Scottish folk music eventually usurped all other preoccupations. Now, he devotes himself exclusively to Celtic music.
He has played more than 100 engagements throughout the U.S. and Scotland. Laval has appeared on the NBC Today Show, Dave Matthews’ Some Devil album and performed for Her Majesty the Queen.
