Artists aiming to expand their creativity and exhibit their wares will have a plethora of opportunities to do so thanks to the Helen Arts & Heritage Center.
The arts center is sponsoring three classes, a judged competition and an artwork jurying this month at 25 Chattahoochee Strasse.
* “The Art Spirit, Why do we paint?” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, and Friday, Aug. 8. Cost is $75 for both days and $40 for one day.
Artist Gayle Murdock will challenge students through exercises to encourage creativity and new approaches and new ways of thinking while painting.
A wine tasting and show of art will be at Murdock’s home in Helen at the conclusion of class Friday. Students asked to bring favorite colors in the medium of choice, oil, acrylic or watercolor.
* Painting Vibrant Watercolors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. Class fee is $45 plus supplies. A supply list is provided upon registration.
Toccoa watercolor artist Gail Watson will teach students to paint beautiful watercolors in vibrant colors. A bag lunch is suggested, but drinks will be provided.
The judged and juried artwork events are:
* Artwork jurying will be Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Helen Arts & Heritage Center.
The Gallery Committee will review new artwork from artists wishing to exhibit in the gallery. Artists may deliver three pieces of the same medium from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 14. A completed HAHC membership application along with a $10 jurying fee must accompany the artwork. The artist will be notified of a time to retrieve the artwork. If accepted, a $25 membership fee must be paid prior to artwork being exhibited.
Free parking is in the rear area of the center on 25 Chattahoochee Strasse in downtown Helen.
* 2014 Judged Competition will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28.
The center is seeking artists for entries. Entry forms and guidelines are available at helenarts.org. Deadline is Monday, Aug. 18.
The free awards presentations and reception will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in the gallery at Helen Arts Center.
