Wheels keep spinning at Lanier National

BRASELTON — Tonight, Lanier National Speedway will be inviting all of the children to get up close to the racing action, by bringing back the ever popular Kids Tire Race. Age groups for the kids tire race will be six years of age and under, seven to nine years of age, ten to eleven years old, and the "big wheels" of the night, the twelve to fifteen year olds. Both male and females are urged to race, as trophies will be awarded to both the highest finishing male and female for each age category.

"We want to do something special for the younger race fans and thank them and their parents, and friends for coming out this weekend," track owner Donnie Clack said.

In other racing action, the local divisions tackling asphalt oval include Bandoleros, Legends, Pro Challenge, Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, Sportsman, Iceman, Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Trucks, and Pro Late Model. Concluding the evening’s events will be the spectator racing and spectator qualifying, where fans can take street vehicles to the track

With four races remaining until the champions will be crowned, the local points races are heating up.

In the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Pro Late Models, No. 38 Shane Sawyer leads No. 45 Dwayne Buggay by a slim four points for the top position.

In the Super Truck division, No. 45 Paul Antley has had a strong season, winning nine races in 2009. Antley has competed in 10 races this year, driving the Curt Britt Motorsports, NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored Chevrolet, and has an average finishing position of 1.54. He’s the current points leader.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. for all local racers and teams, with trackside gates opening at 5 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 6 p.m., with children 11 years and younger admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
