Local sports briefs: Vikings standouts sign with Piedmont

East Hall High students Josh Chapman and Tracey Gardner have committed to Piedmont College to play basketball. Chapman and Gardner, who will graduate with grade point averages over 3.5, played for the four-time state semifinalist and 2005 Class AA state champion Vikings.

Davis Middle, Gainesville Middle win county cup

The C.W. Davis Middle girls and the Gainesville Middle boys soccer team won the Hall County Middle School Cup for soccer  Thursday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Gainesville’s Lalo Eduardo Espinoza was named boys Tourament MVP and C.W. Davis’ Cassidy Elrod was named girls Tournment MVP.

The boys All-Tournament Team consists of Cody Pfister of North Hall, Dalton Snyder of Lakeview, Mitchell Novello of C.W. Davis, Leo Molina of Chestatee, Edwin Vazquez and Edgar James of West Hall, Israel Azurra and Nesxter Delgado of South Hall, Edgar Cerrano, Alfredo Melendez and Pablo Palido of East Hall and Espinoza, Douglas Mejia, Charlie Bryant and Nathan Dillard of Gainesville.

The girls All-Tournament Team consists of Alexis Rebolar of Chestatee, Emmy Carswell of Lakeview, Kelsey Underwood of North Hall, Tatiana Castello of East Hall, Bethany Johnson and Savannah Turk of South Hall, Natalie Allen and Rebecca Webster of Gainesville, Brooke Reed, Elizabeth Gale and Tanya Pereze of West Hall and Elrod, Jacy Ramey, Cashen Philyaw and Morgen Glenn of C.W. Davis.

Jefferson’s Crews signs with Brenau

The Brenau University basketball team signed Jefferson High’s Brittney Crews on April 19. Crews led the Lady Dragons with 15 points per game, 42 percent three-point percentage and 84 percent free throw percentage. She also ranks third in her graduating class.
