Local sports briefs: Flowery Branch grad hits milestone

Piedmont College guard and Flowery Branch High grad Beth Adcock scored her 1,000th career points in the Lady Lions’ 73-68 win against Spelman College on Monday in Atlanta.
Adcock scored 11 points and 11 rebounds and five assists in the effort.
Adcock graduated from Flowery Branch in 2005.

Brenau tennis opens at No. 16 

The Brenau University tennis is ranked No. 16 the NAIA Women’s Tennis Pre-Season Poll released Thursday.
The Tigers are one of five Southern States Athletic Conference teams ranked, alongside No. 1 Auburn-Montgomery, No. 5 Berry, No. 12 Shorter and No. 26 Lee.
Brenau vists Erskine at 3 p.m. today.

North Hall cheerleading squad earns award 

The North Hall High varsity competition cheerleaders were awarded the 2009 Score Team of the Year Award at the team’s banquet on Thursday.
The award is presented by the Score Promotions company and is given to the team that has best exemplified sportsmanship, leadership and faith-based behavior throughout the season. The recipient is judged by a committee of Georgia coaches.
The Lady Trojans are the only Class AAA team to win the award.
