Local players honored in college

Three former area basketball players recently received 2008-2009 awards from the Great South Athletic Conference.

LaGrange College’s Elizabeth Williams, a North Hall High graduate, was named Freshman of the Year along with All-Freshman and All-Conference Recognition.

Piedmont College’s Beth Adcock, a Flowery Branch High graduate, and Laura Simmons, a Johnson High graduate, earned All-Conference and All-Academic recognition from the conference.

Williams averaged 11 points and 5.2 assists in her first year at LaGrange, setting a school record for single-season assists.

Adcock, a senior at Piedmont, averaged 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season for the Lions.

Simmons, a sophomore, averaged 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game this year.
