White County High senior John Luna shot a 69 and placed first overall in the Hall County Optimist Club’s tournament at Chicopee Woods golf course. North Hall’s Andy Bracewell finished second with a 74.
In the Atlanta Junior Golf Association’s tournament at the Alpharetta Athletic Club, Bracewell shot a 76 and finished tied for first in the open boys’ 15-18 year old division. Gainesville sophomore Reeves Bell fired an 81 for a sixth-place tie.
In the club boys’ division, North Hall junior Matt McCormack placed second with an 85.
CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association held a Guys and Dolls tournament Tuesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.
The team of Paul Payne, Larry Smith, Violet Reynolds and Nancy Norris placed first, while second place honors went to Buzz Hansen, Dave Gleason, Guy Long and Jewell Floyd. Joe Kolesar, Jim Hollobaugh and Susan Prather teamed up for third place.
Closest to the pin winners were Dick Staebell (No. 3), Paula Pilgrim (No. 5), Hansen (No. 12) and Don Tynes (No. 17).
CMGA: The Chattahoochee Mens Golf Association played a two best-ball, aggregated net-points game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
The event ended with a tie for first place between the team of Paul Payne, Clay Bartlett, Jim Hesser and Jack Costello and the team of J.B. Johnston, Don Wells, Bob Henderson and John T. Smith.
The team of Denny Momper, Jim Carroll and Ed Pledger tied with the team of Carlyle Cox, Tony Denote, Bob Watson and Guy Long for third place.
Dave Gleason, Ben Brooks and Harry Barnett tied with the team of Doug Van, Bill Sutton and Don Gage, and the team of Bud Clegg, Richard McClure, Bill Kinser and Wayne Nelson for fifth place.
Closest to the pin winners were: Joe Kolesar on No. 3, Harry Barnett on No. 5, Payne on No. 12 and Rick Reed on No. 17.
LUNA’S: The Luna’s Tuesday golf group played at Chicopee Woods this week. First place went to the team of Steve Hill, Richard Strickland, Tommy Lowery and Doug Van. Second place went to Mark Thornton, Cleve Brown, Don Smallwood and Ken Chahoy. Third place went to the team of Stan Davidson Jr., Nelson Wright, Don Rogers and Jerry Johns.
Closest to the pin winners were Tom Sexton (School, No. 4), Brown (School, No. 8), Strickland (Village, No. 4) and Johns (Village, No. 8).
DOGFIGHT: Dave Sellers, Bob Arendt, Bill Jorgenson and Charlie Pierson combined to take first place in the Wednesday Dogfight on June 2 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course with a net score of 23-under par.
Second place went to Don Schrum, Mark Black, Ken Dooley and Keith Fitzgerald with a net score of 20-under par.
With a round of 66, Black won the individual competition while Jorgenson’s 67 took second and Vince Jones’ 68 secured third. Greg Lee, Pierson, Sellers and Roger Stapp tied for fourth place, all shooting a 69.
