Local golf: McWilliams wins at Chicopee Woods

The DPG played matches Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Monday’s match was won by Art McWilliams with a score of +13 while Jerry Shell finished second with a +10. James Roberts carded a +7 for third place and Dave Jetter fired a +5 for fifth.

Ken Lightfoot and Dwight Miller teamed up for first place in Wednesday’s team competition, carding a -3. Second place went to Bob Kidd and Billy Corbin with a score of -7. Corbin and Lightfoot tied for first place in the individual competition with a score of even.

Friday, Steve Knowles took first place with a +6 and Shell took second with a +4. Terrence Dale and Corbin tied for third after each carded a +3.

LUNA: The Luna’s Tuesday golf group played at Chattahoochee this week. First place went to the team of Tom Sexton, Tommy Lowery, Jerry Johns and Ken Chahoy while the team of Joe Campbell, Larry miller, Chad Pierce and Doug McMahan finished in second.

Third place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Johnny Nix, Doug Van and Juan Luna.

Closest to the pin winners were Nelson Wright on No. 3, McMahan on No. 5, Van on No. 12 and Lowery on No. 17.

DOGFIGHT: The Wednesday Dogfight took place at Chicopee Woods Golf Course this week. First place in the team competition went to Jim Arendt, Lou Vega, Jerry Horton and Don Schrum with a combined score of 26-under par.

Greg Lee won the individual competition with a score of 66 while Vega carded a 69 to place second. Schrum and Horton tied for third with a 69 while Arendt, Walt Hope and Sonny Sykes each fired a 70 to tie for fifth place.

Closest to the pin winners were Leed, Mike Tilson and Keith Bardes.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Mens Golf Association played a two-best ball, net aggregated points game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Don Wells, Jim Carroll, Bo Boohaker and Paul Payne with a combined 69 points. The team of Larry Cohan, Stu Virgin, Jack Costello and Jim Hollobaugh tied for second place with the team of Rolf Legbandt, Jim Van Dyke, Dave Long and Bill Ingram with a total of 64 points.

Four place went to the team of A.J. Kiker, Greg Taira, Ed Pledger and Larry Jewett with 62 points while two teams finished in a tie for fifth place with 61 points; Doug Van, Wayne Nelson, Johnny Little and Bob Watson carded the same as the team of Ralph Prescott, Dick Freeman, Leroy Harper and Denny Momper.

Wells was the closest to the pin winner on No. 3, Bill Kinser on No. 5, Larry Jewett on No. 12 and Gene Weschler on No. 17.

CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a team best-ball event Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course. First place went to the team of Ann Hollobaugh, Carolyn Palmer, Johann Stone and Nancy Negley with a net score of 50.

Beulah Land, Violet Reynolds and Nora Gleason teamed up for second place while Norma Remmlinger, Sue Cronmiller and Alice Paris placed in third.

Closest to the pin winners were Ethel Smith on No. 3 and Hollobaugh on No. 17.

DPG: The DPG played matches on July 5, 7 and 9 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

On July 5, Billy Corbin took first place with a score of +5 while Dwight Miller and Terrence Dale tied for second with a score of +2.

There was a tie for first place on July 7 with Dave Jetter and Doug Padgett each carding a +8. Miller took third with a +6 and Bob Kidd finished fourth with a +5.

Denis Jordan was July 9’s event with a score of +3 while Miller placed second with an even score. Kidd and Charley Kilby tied for third with a score of -1.
