Lanier Speedway opener rained out

The season opener for Lanier National Speedway has been cancelled due to inclement weather, the track's general manager Terry Roberts announced Thursday.

The race season was scheduled to begin Saturday, but instead will open April 11.

"We are really disappointed Mother Nature chose to not give us a break," Roberts said in press release. "All of our offseason work leads to opening weekend and now we have to wait a couple of weeks to drop the green flag. We are thankful for the much-needed rain, but disappointed in having to wait to go racing."

The track's April 11 season opener will be held in conjunction with the ASA/SAR RC and Moon Pie series race.

The Lanier National Speedway-based Georgia Asphalt Series will open its season April 4 in Cordele at Watermelon Capital Speedway.
