Less than a week after claiming the national title in the Southern Powerlifting Federation championships, the locally-based IronDawgs weightlifting team won the bench press only team title at the American Powerlifting Committee National championship in Bogart.
Cleve Tatum, of Commerce, won the 140-kilogram class with a lift of 523.664 pounds. He also won the award for best lifter.
Alex Castro, of Turnerville, set a raw world record in the 75-kilogram class with a lift of 203.9255 pounds in the 16-17 year old division. Joey Murphy, of Mount Airy, also set a record in the master’s men’s 40-44 year old 125 kilogram class with a lift of 473 .989 pounds.
Lifting for the first time since hip surgery, Oakwood’s R. Garry Glenn took his sixth national championship and his raw division title in the 55-59 age group with a lift of 303.1325 pounds in the 198.4 pound division.
Jefferson’s Kendall Dean won the raw master’s men’s 40-44 division class with a lift of 264.552 pounds. IronDawg Tim Moon won a national title in the master’s men’s 125 kilogram class with a press of 589.73 pounds.
