West Hall 21, Pickens 12: Running backs lead Spartans to second win

The West Hall High football team won its second consecutive game with a 21-12 win against Pickens on Friday night in Jasper.

Times Elite 11 selection Daniel Drummond led West Hall (2-5, 1-0 Region 7B-AAA) with touchdown runs of 30 and 10 yards. Drummond finished the game with 20 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior running back Marquise Stephens added 111 yards on 16 carries and three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.

West Hall’s linebackers, Drummond, Tray Malone and Gage Brown, combined for 15 tackles and three sacks. Cornerback Steve Eckenroth added six tackles.

West Hall visits Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Habersham Central 42, Dacula 7

Habersham Central wide receiver Tavarres King hauled in a 52-yard pass from senior quarterback Bo Hatchett on the Raiders’ (5-1, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA) first drive Friday night in Dacula. King finished the game with seven receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Hatchett then found Shawn Scott on a 23-yard pass, giving Habersham Central a quick 14-0 lead. Hatchett finished the game 18 of 27 for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior running back Robert Renshaw finished the game with 96 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns.

Josh Anderson led the Raider defense with his fourth interception of the season.

Habersham Central plays host to Clarke Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Commerce 36, Social Circle 35

Down 35-28, Commerce tailback Colton Brown scored on a 15-yard run with 2 minutes, 23 seconds remaining. Brown then rushed up the middle on the Tigers’ (5-2, 1-1 Region 8-A) two-point conversion attempt to give Commerce a 36-35 lead. Brown finished the game with 53 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.

Commerce quarterback Reuben Haynes led the Tigers with 19 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Cohen Cooke set a new school record for receptions in a single season (50) with eight catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Jon Cash added two receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Commerce plays host to Prince Avenue Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Jefferson 41, Bremen 28

Jefferson junior running back Virgil Appleby scored on touchdown runs of 20, 9 and 6 yards Friday night in Jefferson. Appleby finished the game with 20 carries for 140 yards and three touchdowns.

Dragon tailback Zach Crosby led the Dragon (3-2) offense with 236 all purpose yards. He finished the game with 97 rushing yards and a touchdown and five catches for 96 yards.

Jefferson quarterback finished the game 17 of 22 for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Kyle Mosley led the Dragon defense with eight tackles.

Jefferson plays host to Social Circle at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Banks County 42, Rabun County 21

Banks County running back Justin Beasley led the Leopard (2-4, 1-0 Region 8B-AA) offense with 26 carries for 284 yards and three touchdowns Friday night in Homer. Beasley also caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Banks County quarterback Dustin Worley.

Demetric Dempson added 10 carries for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Banks County visits Union County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lumpkin County 23, Gilmer 10

Lumpkin County tailback Cameron Jackson scored a 75-yard rushing touchdown on the Indians (3-2) first offensive possesion Friday night in Elijay. Jackson finished the game with two touchdowns.

Ken Jackson added a touchdown for Lumpkin County, while Ben Ayres hit a 22-yard field goal.

Lumpkin County visits East Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Clarke Central 49, Jackson County 6
