Two area athletes were selected as finalists for the Vincent J. Dooley Scholarships as released Monday by Athletes for a Better World and the Georgia High School Association.

Chestatee’s Spenser Gruenefelder and Banks County’s Justin Bowen were among 20 finalists for the scholarship, who were chosen from 270 Georgia high school students for their distinguished individual character, outstanding teamwork and citizenship.

The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship, plus $1,000 to donate to the charity of their choice.
