This Week: Local programs aiming for cross country state titles
Chestatee boys, girls both enter as region champions

The high school state cross country meet for Classes AA-AAAAAA is Saturday in Carrollton, and the Chestatee boys and girls Region 8-AAAA championship teams will be among the first to get going. The Class AAAA boys get the day started when they set off from the starting line at 8:30 a.m., and the girls will follow at 9:15 a.m. The Johnson boys and Lumpkin County girls are running as well in Class AAAA. The Class AA boys, including the 8-AA championship team from Riverside Military Academy, are scheduled to run at 10 a.m. The girls in this classification will follow at 10:45 a.m. After the Class AAAAAA races, the Flowery Branch boys will get the chance to win a second consecutive state title when the Class AAAAA boys race begins at 1 p.m. Gainesville’s boys will also be running. The Lady Falcons, second in Region 8-AAAAA, will get their chance at improving on a second place state finish last season when the girls race at 1:45.
