This weekend, area wrestling programs will take to the mats for team bragging rights in the duals format.

In Area 8-AAA, programs will converge on Oconee County for the duals to determine the state qualifiers for the state meet in Macon. In Hall County, Chestatee is one of the most accomplished programs in the early part of the season with a 17-5 record, including a pair of wins last Thursday against Stephens County and Robbinsville (N.C.).

In Area 8-AA, Jefferson is looking to make it back to the state duals and repeat as state champions for the 11th straight season. The Dragons also have a string of consecutive state championships in the traditional format since 2001.

In Area 8-AAAA, Flowery Branch will look to make it to the state duals with a meet at Clarke Central in Athens.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: From the Lanierland tournament, we’ve already learned who’s the best in Hall County. Now, it’s time for area teams to take to subregion play for the next five weeks to determine seeding for respective region tournaments.

The Lanierland champion Gainesville boys start subregion play in Region 8B-AAA with a home game against West Hall on Tuesday, while the Lanierland girls tournament champs East Hall play a non-region game against St. Francis Friday, before opening subregion play the following day at home against Banks County.

Also on Tuesday, Jefferson awaits a region game against Hart County, while Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth.

Then, on Friday, Lakeview Academy opens Region 8A-A subregion play against Tallulah Falls in Gainesville. In Region 8-AAA South, Johnson visits West Hall on Friday, and North Hall visits Chestatee in the North subregion.

In Region 6-AA, Buford opens subregion play at Decatur on Friday.
