Shewbert takes 1600 meter in all-classification best time at Georgia Olympics

Flowery Branch High’s Jake Shewbert won the Class AAAAA state championship with an all-classification best time of 4:11.64 in the 1600-meter run at the Georgia Olympics on Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson.

Also for the Falcons in the 1600, Grant O’Callaghan joined Shewbert on the podium as he finished third at 4:19.45.

Riverside Military Academy had a pair of top-5 finishers in Class AA.

James Brubeck rounded up a 13-foot pole vault that put him fourth for the Eagles, while Prince James E. Story tossed his shot put 49 feet, 2.25 inches to take fifth.

North Hall’s Mac Bennett took fifth in the Class AAAA shot put with a 50-foot, 7-inch mark.

Tommy Johnston rounded out the top-5 in the Class AAAA 1600 for the Trojans with a time of 4:21.30.

Banks County’s Kayne Berryhill cleared 13 feet, 6 inches in the Class AAA pole vault to secure the third spot on the podium for the Leopards.
