Region tournament semifinals: Gainesville girls move on to face Winder-Barrow for 8-AAAAAA title

Taylor Hawks poured in 18 points for the Gainesville High girls as they topped Dacula 49-40 in the Region 8-AAAAAA semifinals on Friday at Apalachee High. With the win, the Lady Red Elephants will face Winder-Barrow at 6 p.m. tonight for the region championships.

Also for Gainesville, Tija Blackwell scored 13 points.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 82, WINDER-BARROW 38: Kajuan Hale and Bailey Minor led the Red Elephants with 14 points each in the Region 8-AAAAAA semifinal on Friday at Apalachee High.

With the win, Gainesville will face Dacula for the region title at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Winder. Also in double-figure scoring for the Red Elephants were Maurice Hector (13), Jarrel Rosser (12) and Xavier Bledson (10).

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 47, LOGANVILLE 34: Taniyah Worth led all scorers with 16 points, and Julianne Sutton pulled down 20 rebounds for the Lady Falcons in the semifinals of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament Friday at Cedar Shoals.

Flowery Branch will face Buford for the Region 8-AAAAA championship at 4 p.m. today in Athens.
Sutton scored nine points, while Lexie Sengkhammee finished with eight points.

BUFORD GIRLS 69, CLARKE CENTRAL 36: Audrey Weiner paced the Lady Wolves with 14 points, and Tate Walters chipped in 11 points in the semifinals of the 8-AAAAA tournament Friday at Cedar Shoals.

Marissa Bruce and Tory Ozment each finished with 10 points for Buford. The Lady Wolves will take on Flowery Branch for the region title at 4 p.m. today in Athens.

DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 58, EAST HALL 42: Kaylee Sticker scored 23 points for the Lady Tigers in the semifinals of the Region 7-AAA tournament on Friday at Union County High.

With the win, Dawson County will face Greater Atlanta Christian at 6 p.m. for the region title in Blairsville. Anna Lowe finished with 17 points, and Emma Brown scored 12 for the Tigers, which outscored East Hall 21-5 in the fourth quarter.

BANKS COUNTY 76, MONTICELLO 68: Carl Cleveland scored 21 points in the Region 8-AA championship Friday as the Leopards claimed their 19th consecutive win and first region title since 1995.

Also for Banks County, Kahmal Wiley had 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Dylan Orr chipped in 10 points and 14 boards for the Leopards.

On Friday, Banks County plays an opponent still to be determined in the opening round of the Class AA state tournament in Homer.

Soccer

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 5, WEST HALL 1: Luke Biasi scored three goals with an assist for the Falcons on Friday. Carlos Servellon and Elias Araya each scored once for Flowery Branch.

On Tuesday, Flowery Branch visits Archer at 7:30 p.m. in Lawrenceville.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, WEST HALL 0: Allyson Lusco scored twice with an assist for the Lady Falcons on Friday. Glorismel Chavez, Halie Windish and Morgan Wadsworth each scored once for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch visits Archer at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lawrenceville.

JOHNSON BOYS 2, EASTSIDE 0: Alex Penaloza and Michael Arcia each scored for the Knights on Friday in Oakwood. Johnson finished the game with 19 shots on goal to just one for Eastside.
