Chestatee earns key victory; Trojans, Falcons roll

Gainesville clinched a playoff berth in Region 7B-AAA on Friday night with a 40-14 victory over West Hall in Oakwood.

Kendrick Harris scored two rushing touchdowns and rushed for 137 yards on 14 carries through three quarters. Senior Gerald Ford hauled in 10 catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

Marquise Stephens ran for a 63-yard touchdown for the Spartans, bringing his first quarter total to 133 yards rushing. Gainesville’s quarterback Justin Fordham threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ford in the first quarter for the Red Elephants.

Other final scores:

North Hall 73, East Hall 20: Bobby Epps led the Trojans with two first half touchdowns and Hunter Wolf added a 61-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Trojans solidified their lead in Region 7A-AAA.

Chestatee 24, Lumpkin County 22: A failed two-point conversion by the Indians gave the War Eagles a key victory in the race for a playoff spot in Region 7A-AAA. Jo Jo Sweet led Chestatee with two rushing touchdowns in the first half. Lumpkin kicker Ben Ayres hit two first-half field goals.

Flowery Branch 42, Johnson 13: Flowery Branch receiver Tracy Sykes caught two touchdown passes from Falcons' quarterback Jaybo Shaw in the first half. The Falcons entered the night in first place in Region 7B-AAA.
