Prep scoreboard: Lady War Eagles split season opener

The Chestatee High volleyball team split its season-opening meet sweeping West Hall (25-23, 25-15) and losing to Monroe Area (25-13, 27-25) on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Allie Burnette had an ace and three kills and Charlotte Hill had an ace and five assists for the Lady War Eagles (1-1) in their win against West Hall

In their loss to Monroe Area, Jessica Porter had 10 digs. Alura Roe had three kills, one block, one dig and two aces. Hill had three assists and a dig.

The Lady Spartans (0-2) also struggled against the Monroe Area, falling to the Lady Purple Hurricanes in three games (25-27, 25-11, 25-12).

The Lady War Eagles play host to Lakeview Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday. West Hall visits Harrison at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a tri-match against Harrison and Lithia Springs.

Johnson splits season opener at North Gwinnett

The Lady Knights split their season-opening meet with a win against Peachtree Ridge (13-25, 25-15, 25-21) and a loss against North Gwinnett (25-19, 25-14) on Tuesday at North Gwinnett High in Suwanee.

In their loss to North Gwinnett, Jordan Gustavel led Johnson with four kills and two aces. Anna Beth Peace had five digs.

In their win against Peachtree Ridge, Shelley Farley had two kills, 10 assists and three aces for the Lady Knights. Katie Clark had seven kills, two blocks and five aces. Laura Gazaway had six digs.

Johnson visits North Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday for a tri-match against North Hall and Collins Hill.

Jefferson sweeps Gainesville in season opener

The Lady Dragons opened their season with two wins (25-22, 25-11) against Gainesville on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Taylor Ricketts led the Lady Red Elephants with four assists, two kills, two digs and four aces. Kiki Thompson had one assist, one kill and five digs. Lauren Thomas had four assists and one kill. Jasmine Jones had four kills and one block.

Gainesville visits Habersham Central at 5 p.m. Thursday. Jefferson plays host to Greene County at 5 p.m. Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Jefferson 10, Commerce 0

Kara Perry allowed one hit and struck out eight to earn the win for the Lady Dragons on Tuesday in Commerce.

Callie Holloway and Brooke Whelchel each went to 2-for-3 for Jefferson (5-2), while Jennifer Brueshaber and Devin Stanley each had two RBIs for the Lady Dragons.

Jefferson visits Providence Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday. Commerce visits Banks County at 5:45 p.m. today.

North Hall 8, Chestatee 0

Megan Rogers allowed one hit and struck out nine in six innings, while getting two hits at the plate for the Lady Trojans on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Anna Bower had two hits and four RBIs for North Hall (1-1, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA). Hannah Stevens, Kelsey Gibbs, Danielle Newbern, Chelsea Clever and Brittany Smith each had one hit.

North Hall visits East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Chestatee (0-7, 0-1 Region 7A-AAA) visits Johnson at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Pickens 4, East Hall 3

Chassie Miller was 2-for-3 and Christina Davis reached base safely three times for the Lady Vikings on Tuesday in Jasper.

Kayla McDougald earned the loss for East Hall (2-5, 0-1 Region 7B-AAA).

The Lady Vikings play host to North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.
