Prep scoreboard: Lady Falcons earn first region win

The Flowery Branch High softball team earned their first region win of the season, defeating Gilmer 4-3 on Thursday in Flowery Branch.

Caitlin Fowler batted in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning for the Lady Falcons (4-3, 1-1). Jessica Harper also hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run.

Rachel Duden picked up the win for Flowery Branch. Roxie Dalton earned the save.

Flowery Branch plays host to Pickens at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Buford 1, Dacula 0

The Lady Wolves scored the only run of the game in the first inning when Karly Fullem was walked with the bases loaded to score Chelsie Thomas in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational Tournament on Thursday at North Gwinnett High in Suwanee.

Melissa Dickie picked up the win for Buford (1-1) and allowed only two hits in a complete game performance.

Samantha Ramey led the Lady Wolves at the plate with two hits. Thomas, Whitney Holman, Alysha Rudnik, Callie Case and Lexi Overstreet each had one hit.

Buford returns to North Gwinnett at 4 p.m. today to play Northside-Columbus.

Providence Christian 3, Jefferson 2

Providence Christian’s Kylie Kleinschmidt threw a no-hitter and struck out 14 on Thursday in Lilburn.

Jefferson’s two runs were scored on errors in the first inning. Kara Perry was the losing pitcher for the Lady Dragons (4-3).

Jefferson plays host to Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Monday.

Mill Creek 10, Jackson County 0

Haley Shinall had the Lady Panthers only hit of the night in a four-inning loss to Mill Creek on Thursday in Hoschton.

Shinall was also the losing pitcher for the Jackson County (1-2).

Karlee Beggs was 2-for-3 a run for the Lady Hawks. Lauren Stimis was 2-for-2 with a run and a stolen base. Kait Stringer and Hannah Graham each went 1-for-2 with a run.

The Lady Panthers will return to Mill Creek to play Houston County at 6 p.m. today.

VOLLEYBALL

Chestatee tops Lakeview Academy, Madison County in tri-meet

The Lady War Eagles won matches against Lakeview Academy (25-16, 19-25, 25-20) and Madison County (25-6, 25-14) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Madisen Yates had three kills and one block for Chestatee against Lakeview Academy. Melissa Bailey had two kills and one block. Alura Roe had two kills and one block. Kiersten Sapp had six assists.

Emily Norton led the Lady Lions (3-3, 2-2 Region 8-A) against Chestatee with 19 assists. Louisa Jacobs had six kills, Liz Clark had five kills and Megan Rochester had four kills for Lakeview Academy.

Charlotte Hill led the Lady War Eagles in their second match against Madison County with two aces and six assists. Victoria Callahan had four kills, one tip and one assist and Ali Burnette had four kills.

Lakeview Academy also beat Madison County (25-18, 25-9). Anna Claire Dover and Liz Clark each had three aces each and Heather Styles had two aces for the Lady Lions.

Chestatee and Lakeview Academy will meet again when they visit Johnson at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall opens season with two wins

The Lady Trojans opened their season with wins against Collins Hill (21-25, 25-20, 25-20) and Johnson (12-25, 25-21, 25-17) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Kathryn Bell led North Hall (2-0) with 11 assists against Johnson. Sarita Madera and Evann Rowland each had eight-point serve runs with three aces.

Madera also had six kills, along with Rowland’s four.

North Hall travels to West Forsyth at 7 p.m. today for matches against West Forsyth and Centennial.

West Hall drops two at Harrison

The Lady Spartans lost matches to Harrison (9-25, 19-25) and Campbell (27-25, 21-25, 25-18) on Thursday in Kennesaw.

Jessica Hollis led West Hall (0-4) on defense.

West Hall visits Oconee County at 10 a.m. Saturday for a six-team play date.

Habersham Central sweeps Gainesville to stay unbeaten

The Lady Raiders (7-0) remained undefeated with two wins (25-7, 25-14) against Gainesville on Thursday in Mt. Airy.

Loren Thomas had two assists, two kills and one ace for the Lady Red Elephants (0-2). Taylor Ricketts had three assists, three kills, three digs and two aces.

Gainesville also dropped two games to Clarke Central (25-14, 25-21). Ricketts had three assists, six kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces. Kiki Thompson had three assists and two kills. Thomas had three assists, three kills and three aces. Jasmine Jones had blocks and Somer Graham had three assists.

Habersham Central plays host to Duluth at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Gainesville travels to Monroe Area at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Monroe Area and Winder-Barrow.
