Johnson High senior Will Rowlett pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits, en route to a season opening 2-1 win against Class AAAA’s Cedar Shoals on Monday in Oakwood.
David Jones led the Knights (1-0) offensively going 2-for-2 at the plate. He drove in Rowlett on a first inning single.
Rowlett led off the two-run first inning with a double. Jones scored Johnson’s final run on an RBI single from senior Bobby Wirsing.
Johnson visits Clarke Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Athens.
GOLF
White County girls stay unbeaten
Rosie Cochran’s 44 and Sarah Holmes’ 47 led the Lady Warriors (3-0) in a tri-match win over Johnson and North Hall at Mossy Creek Golf Course on Monday.
As a team the Lady Warriors shot a 91. Johnson carded a 104 and North Hall shot a 120.
The Warriors play host to Dawson County and West Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Mossy Creek in Cleveland.
TENNIS
West Hall boys 5, North Hall 0
Luis Flores, Alan Clark and Chris Evans all won singles matches in straight sets against North Hall on Monday night in Oakwood.
The teams of Derek Weatherly and Ricky Vital and Kyle Weatherly and Jimmy Kincaid each won doubles matches for the Spartans.
The Trojans (0-2) visit Lumpkin County at 4 p.m. today. West Hall plays host to Gainesville 4 p.m. today.
North Hall girls 5, West Hall 0
Cara Reece, Hayley Crowder and Mary Beth Brown all won matches in singles for the Lady Trojans (2-0) on Monday night.
Lauren Bolton and Courtney Wiley won at No. 1 doubles for North Hall (6-0, 7-6, 7-3) against West Hall’s Alex Wright and Ali Parham.
Jessica Butts and Rachel Langman won at No. 2 doubles for the Lady Trojans (7-5, 6-2) against West Hall’s Samantha Lingle and Kayla Cansler.
North Hall visits Lumpkin County today.
Johnson boys 5, Lakeview 0
The Knights improved their record to 2-0 on Monday with a shutout over Lakeview.
All five spots were won in straight sets.
Winning at No. 1 singles was Seth Hester defeating Nekhil Patel 6-4, 6-4. Brandon Sloan at No. 2 singles defeated Mike Fowler 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 3 singles Stephen Hester completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Max Shipman.
Winning at No. 1 doubles: Billy Hulsey and TJ Williams defeated Sean Casey and James Marks 6-0, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of William Anthony and Scott Allan defeated Alex Klecon and Matt Morris 6-0, 6-3.
Johnson travels to Pickens on Tuesday for their first subregion 7B-AAA match.
