Prep scoreboard: Bennett drives in 6 runs in Gainesville win

Zach Bennett went 3-for-3 with hit two home runs  to lead the Red Elephants past Chestatee 14-2 on Saturday at Ivey Watson Park.

Bennett’s grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning ended the game and gave the senior a total of six RBIs on the day.

Fellow senior and University of Georgia signee Robbie Hefflinger finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs and Max Joseph was 2-for-3 for Gainesville (15-5, 14-2 Region 7-AAA).

Andy Edmondson pitched five strong innings to earn his first win of the year.

The game on Saturday was originally to be played on Friday, but was rescheduled to Saturday because Chestatee High’s prom was on Friday night.

Gainesville will play host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Lacrosse

West Forsyth boys 4, Gainesville 3 (2OT)

West Forsyth scored a goal in the second overtime to defeat the Red Elephants on Saturday.
Gainesville experienced its first lead of the year when Tam Thai scored on a pass from Son Vu in the first quarter.

After West Forsyth scored two goals in the second quarter, Vu scored the equalizer on a pass from Nick Williams.

Thai gave the Red Elephants the lead again with a goal in the fourth quarter.

West Forsyth tied the game right before the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Zach Marsh had 13 saves for Gainesville.
