Prep football: Habersham Central 41, Jackson County 10
Raiders ready for region playoffs

Habersham Central remained undefeated in subregion play with a 41-10 rout of Jackson County on Friday night in Jefferson. The Raiders (8-1, 6-0 Region 8A-AAAA) next play either Rockdale County or Heritage for a playoff spot at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Larry Black Memorial in Mount Airy.

The Raiders struck quickly Friday as Josh Anderson hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Habersham Central quarterback Bo Hatchett just four minutes into the game.

Hatchett then threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Raiders senior receiver Tavarres King to extend the lead to 14-0 with 5:50 left in the opening period.

King led the Habersham Central receivers with seven catches for 91 yards.

Hatchett had another outstanding night, going 17 of 24 through the air for 244 yards.

Anderson scored again in the second quarter on a 24-yard pass from Hatchett. He finished the game with 78 yards receiving. Habersham Central’s Robert Renshaw, a senior, finished with three touchdowns (1, 3 and 1 yards). He also finished the game with 11 carries for 90 yards.

Adarius Hendrix led the Panthers (0-9, 0-6) with 17 carries for 105 yards. Cory Williams scored for Jackson County in the fourth quarter on a run from the 1-yard line.
