Dawson County’s early lead came by surprise, but wasn’t enough for a first-round upset over Class AA No. 3-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian, as the Tigers fell 82-58 on Friday night in Norcross.

The Tigers led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored by 26 points in the final three quarters.

Chase Hudson caused the most problems for Dawson County, leading GAC with 22 points. Overall, the Spartans had nine players on the scoresheet.

Despite the loss, the Tigers still had four players score in double figures. Zach Cook led with 13 points. Nick Fiorentino scored 12 and Robert O’Quinn and Lee Little each scored 10.

With the win, GAC advances to the second round of the Class AA state tournament against Coosa at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
