Offseason workouts motivated Buford's Jake Higginbotham in run to Class AAAA baseball state title

The best thing Jake Higginbotham ever did for his fastball had nothing to do with his arms. The left-handed pitcher from Buford High decided to “take the fall off” heading into his senior season this spring, a gamble that ended with the Wolves (34-4) earning a Class AAAA state title this May with a sweep over Whitewater. So instead of throwing from the mound last fall, Higginbotham turned to the weight room, where he worked out five days a week to gain 16 pounds of muscle in order to improve his velocity.
