The Trojans (12-0), ranked third in Class AAA, need a win against Perry (9-3) at the Brickyard on Friday for their first trip to the Georgia Dome for the state semifinals in school history.
This season, North Hall has put up gaudy numbers setting or matching school records in just about every category imaginable. Accordingly, the Trojans have managed to make huge plays all season as games have gotten increasingly closer as the playoffs have moved along.
Here’s a look at the top five plays of the season that got North Hall to round 3 of the state playoffs. Trojans fans can only hope this list will need to be amended before the season is complete.
5). The Trojans had three key goal line stands against West Hall to preserve a 42-0 win early in the season. While the outcome of that game was never it question, it preserved a school record three consecutive shutout victories to begin the season.
That set the tone for the rest of the regular season. The Trojans only allowed 8.4 points per game during the regular season.
4). Trojans senior fullback Bobby Epps helped secure their win against Gainesville on Sept. 28 with a touchdown run from the 1 late in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, he added a 39-yard touchdown run to seal the win at Bobby Gruhn Field.
Against Gainesville, Epps’ pair of touchdowns and Hunter Wolf’s 161 rushing yards help produce one of North Hall’s best offensive nights of the season.
3). Wolf provided one of North Hall’s biggest plays of the season with a 57-yard run down to the goal line against McNair in the first round of the playoffs at the Brickyard. It gave the Trojans all the momentum back after a struggle containing McNair’s offense in the third quarter.
2). Wolf helped secure last Friday’s second round 21-7 win against Sandy Creek with many key plays. One of his biggest plays came when he recovered a fumble on the first play of the third quarter.
Then on the same drive, Wolf scored the game’s first touchdown with a run from the 2.
