The North Hall High wrestling team qualified six wrestlers from the Class AAA East Sectionals on Saturday for this week’s state championships at the Gwinnett Arena.

At West Laurens High, Trojans 132-pounder Andy Voss placed second, Tyler Kratzer (138) finished third and Tyler Goss (120) was fourth.

North Hall’s Cam Howell (220) also finished fourth, Taylor Marett placed fifth (106) and Matt Joy (112) also qualified for state in seventh as the top eight finishers from the each sectional advance to the three-day state finals in Duluth.

“It is quite a feather in the hat to place and do as well as we did,” North Hall coach Jay Hargis said.

Chestatee also qualified six through to the state meet, including second-place finishers Jose Reyes-Lavallee (106) and Taylor Wright (152). Lavallee was one of three Area 8-AAA 106-pounders to round out the top three in the smallest weight class at sectionals.

“Our area was pretty tough,” War Eagles coach Carey Whitlow said. “We figured if we could make it through area then we’ve got a good shot to make it through to state, and that’s about what we did.”

Other Chestatee state qualifiers included fourth-place finisher Dylan Brock (195), Christian Zapatero (126) sixth, Kyle Wesley (160) seventh and Bartolo Velasquez (113) eighth.

Velasquez, the Area 8-AAA champion, forfeited his final matches as a precaution after injuring himself during the day, Whitlow said.

Fellow 8-AAA wrestler Elliott Raiford (132) from West Hall placed fifth and is also headed to state.

In Class AA, East Hall qualified three wrestlers for the state championship meet. At the Class AA East Sectionals in
Dublin, Carlos Negron (152) placed fifth, J.D. Holloway (285) took sixth and Edward Vergara (145) earned seventh.
