Melissa Mullis has returned to her role as the varsity softball coach at Jefferson High, the school announced Tuesday.

Mullis is a native of Louisiana and a graduate of LSU, where she played softball. She began her coaching career in 2001 as an assistant at Madison County High. She left Madison County in 2004 and moved to Jefferson to help the school make the transition from slow pitch to fast pitch.

In her inaugural year with the Lady Dragons, Mullis was 17-8 overall and had a 9-3 region record. The next two years, Mullis’ teams won two region titles, earned two berths in the state playoffs, made the final eight twice and placed second once. Her overall record was 70-28 overall before she resigned at the end of the 2006 season to prepare for the birth of her third child in January of 2007.
