Mize steal, layup in closing seconds lifts East Hall girls basketball over Dawson Co.

Kylah Mize converted a steal into the game-winning layup with 13.9 seconds left as the East Hall girls basketball team pulled out a 46-45 region win against Dawson County on Saturday.

Mize tallied more than half of her team’s points with 27. Carly Winters scored seven points, and Maggie Griffin put up another six for the Lady Vikings (10-7, 5-1 Region 7-AAA).

Kaylee Sticker totaled 15 points for Dawson County, while Callie Watson had 10 points.

East Hall hosts North Hall in a crucial region contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

EAST HALL BOYS 85, DAWSON COUNTY 84: A well-rounded scoring effort helped the Vikings grab a Region 7-AAA win Saturday.

Mahki Brown put up 19 points as one of four Vikings to score in double digits. Luke Cooper had 18, while Sedrion Morse and Luke Holtzclaw both notched 15.

Dawson County’s Jeremiah Crumley led all scorers with 28 points. Four of his teammates scored 10 or more points: Joseph Cronin (16), Cullen Reed, (13) Coey Watson (12) and Kane Pelfrey (10).

On Friday night, East Hall beat Lumpkin Country 70-63 thanks to Cooper’s 25 points.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 89, TOWNS COUNTY 50: The Lady Lions had four players score in double digits as they cruised to a region win Saturday.

Hanna Grogan led all scorers with 22 points. Savannah Kinsey, Maddy Towles and Christen Copeland each had 11 points for Lakeview Academy (14-4, 6-0 Region 8-A).

The Lady Lions will host Hebron Christian Academy in a region game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 79, TOWNS COUNTY 65: Two players topped 20 points for the Lions as they secured a Region 8-A victory Saturday.

Drew Cottrell scored 23 points, followed by Tre Gober with 22. Lakeview Academy (12-4, 7-0 region) will take on McEachern in the BCB Showcase at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Peachtree Ridge High.

BUFORD GIRLS 49, HARRISON 43 (OT): In a battle of No. 1-ranked teams, the Class AAAAA Lady Wolves knocked off Class AAAAAA Harrison on Saturday.

Tory Ozment dropped 18 points for Buford (15-0), which battled Harrison to a 39-39 tie at the end of regulation. Snoody Johnson, who hit six free throws down to stretch to help seal the win, finished with 13 points.

Buford returns to Region 8-AAAAA play against Loganville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 83, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 43: Behind Kahmal Wiley’s 16 rebounds and 15 points, the Leopards extended their winning streak to 10 straight games Saturday.

Gabe Martin led his team with 19 points, while Dylan Orr posted 11 points and 10 rebounds. Carl Cleveland stuffed the stat sheet for Banks County (13-4, 5-0 Region 8-AA) with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals and assists.
Darius Bonds dished out 11 assists for the Leopards, who visit Monticello on Jan. 20.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 74, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 22: Jaycie Bowen scored 17 points and hauled in seven rebounds as the Lady Leopards breezed to a Region 8-AA victory Saturday.

Banks County (11-6, 3-2 region) had a balanced scoring night as five other players notched at least six points. Gabby Kennedy put up 12 points, while Kulia Beasley pitched in nine.

The Lady Leopards will travel to face Monticello at 7 p.m. Friday.
